For reasons I honestly can't fathom, Capcom has decided to go against the grain and completely redo Resident Evil 3's original structure, resulting in a remake that feels almost nothing like the original.Īlthough Resident Evil 3: Nemesis on the PlayStation was already a slightly more linear and action-heavy game than its two predecessors, it still had the series' patented exploration and puzzle solving elements just in smaller quantities. Although Capcom took some liberties and slightly tweaked Resident Evil 2's structure to keep it from feeling too dated, they kept much of the game's terrific exploration, puzzle solving, and survival horror elements intact. Resident Evil 3 is a much less successful and ultimately less enjoyable remake than Resident Evil 2 from 2019-a very well regarded, almost-perfect reimagining of the classic 1998 original. There are some pros (like superb voice acting, phenomenal graphic, really cool boss fights etc) but its too little to make it a really good game. Favourite locations? Gone, and replaced by literally copy-pasted elements of RE2make, like Kendo Shop or sewers.Īs stand alone game? Its 7 hours long, linear, on rails, campaign with no additional content and extremely shallow gameplay. Oppressive, somber atmosphere? Gone - instead of walking alone through devastated city you now always have your team and everyone is either throwing sassy comments or running from explosions. Randomisation of enemies and items? Gone.
Branching paths? Gone, game is painfully linear.
Nemesis? Basically gone, reduced to cut-scenes, boss fights and two scripted chase sequences. Streets of Raccoon city? Reduced to one small area and two hallways. Everything that made original game memorable in the first place is gone. Mediocre standalone game and even worse remake.Īs a remake, it does not resemble its source material at all. 1 asymmetrical multiplayer experience offers both cooperative and competitive gameplay, where players can create their own survival horror experience in the Resident Evil universe.
